We picked up this sweater on a recent trip to Wyoming, where we were just hoping to find a bunch of westerns for a wholesale customer. To our surprise in a small country city we discovered this mint Ski Sweater. Now the streak continues to 4 weeks for finding rare Vintage Ralph Lauren Clothing. Hopefully the streak goes to 5 weeks and we discover something rare & valuable next week!

Actual broadcast words from the memorable play in 1987: “Now there’s a steal by Bird! Underneath to DJ who lays it in! Right at one second left! What a play by Bird! Bird stole the in bounding pass, laid it up to DJ, and DJ laid it up and in, and Boston has a one-point lead with one second left! Oh my, this place is going crazy!!!” – Broadcaster Johnny Most

Hunting down product is a lifestyle, it is the one area of our job that keeps us so busy. The goal daily is to uncover items nobody has or maybe will never see again. Example, this Vintage Magna T-Shirt (which we found 6), but had no idea what we were purchasing. We made a quick phone call & purchased them on a hunch. Listed them on ebay & within 14 days all 6 were gone, selling price $35-$60. To this day we still get emails asking if we have more, and all we have left is the picture above!

My first love as a child was playing basketball across the street from my Grandmother’s house in San Francisco. I never played, watched or even desired to play any other sport. That is the very reason why I love finding vintage NBA clothing today, no matter the worth. I picked these 2 shirts up at a very small thrift store (normally sucks!) in Northern Colorado. Small thrift stores can be your worst enemy and for a split second become your best friend. As vintage pickers one thing you always know is: Hard work always pays off!

When we first started selling vintage clothing, we found a Vintage Ralph Lauren River Rapids Rugby for $3 in Salt Lake City. We took a horrible picture not knowing what we had and threw it up on ebay. The messages & offers came flowing instantly but something told me to let the auction run. After 7 days on ebay the Rugby sold for for $375. Since that moment we have been hooked on finding every collectable piece of Ralph Lauren. Above is a FRESH Sportsman Button Shirt, not very valuable but a nice piece that doesn’t surface often. It will hit ebay tomorrow and most likely will be gone quickly!

We’ve been on a strong roll finding Vintage Ralph Lauren these last few weeks. Our most recent pick up last weekend was this Vintage Ralph Lauren Vest with Goose Down and Fowl Feathers. When we first found it, it was full of dust and dirt, because of that we were able to buy it at a really low price. Once we took it home, we were able to spruce it back to life with a thorough steaming which eliminated all staining from the front. Its now in great condition and should fetch a high dollar on ebay. It will be going up later this week, and should be on its way to NY after the auction completes.

The Downtown Man is fully optimistic of what we want to achieve for 2012. We strongly feel this will be our year- and although we’ve said it many times, we are extremely excited to finally put forth the foundation needed to have an amazing year. What you can expect is blogging about our day-to-day grind, favorite vintage finds, our life on the road, and our different style of life as clothing pickers. We want The Downtown Man to grow and we are committed to finally making that happen. 2012 will be a year to remember!
